Doey’s House Groundbreaking Ceremony Set for July 7, 2016
Doey’s House Groundbreaking Ceremony Set for July 7, 2016 at Noon
Hospice of Washington County, Inc. (HWC) will be hosting the Groundbreaking Ceremony for Doey’s House on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at noon. The event will be held at the site off of Yale Drive near the roundabout in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Hospice of Washington County, Inc. (HWC) has provided end-of-life care to the residents of Washington County, Maryland, for thirty-six years. As the only licensed hospice provider in the county, HWC has grown its team and services to meet the needs of the entire community.
Offering high quality end-of-life care, HWC assists patients wherever they live. However, sometimes the option of staying in their home is not viable when pain and symptoms need to be managed at a more intense level of care for a period of time; a hospice house is the perfect option. At present, those needing or wanting a hospice house setting for this pain and symptom management have only one option – to leave the county. With this in mind, the Board of Directors of HWC fully committed to building a 12-bed inpatient hospice house that will provide general inpatient and respite services for hospice patients right here in Washington County.
This commitment, coupled with the initial vision and dedication of local businessman Neal Glessner, led to the development of a hospice house known as Doey’s House. Neal personally realized the need for a hospice house in Washington County after experiencing the passing of his mother, Doris (“Doey”). Neal and his wife Mary chair a group of leaders in the community to fundraise for this important project through a capital and endowment campaign.
After the groundbreaking ceremony, a reception and ice cream social will be held in honor of Doris Glessner’s birthday. Individuals who would like to attend the groundbreaking can park at Eastern Elementary School and will be shuttled to the site. Sensible shoes are recommended for the event.
