HOSPICE OF WASHINGTON COUNTY ANNOUNCES CEO
NEW CEO SELECTED FOR HOSPICE OF WASHINGTON COUNTY
Hagerstown, MD – Hospice of Washington County’s (HWC) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Ernesto Lopez, BSN, MBA and RN as Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Lopez will begin his role as CEO on September 1, 2017. This announcement comes as the organization is about to open the first hospice house in Washington County, Doey’s House.
Tom Newcomer, Chair of the HWC Board of Directors, commented, “HWC conducted an Executive National Search, and we received and considered a wide-range of highly qualified candidates. Following the completion of this process, I am pleased to announce that we have found a dynamic, highly-qualified candidate to help us continue and expand our mission of providing quality end-of-life care for patients and their families and grief support for those coping with a life-changing loss. HWC currently provides a variety of services to our community, and we believe that Ernesto will be able to lead the organization into its next journey.”
Mr. Lopez is relocating from Orlando, Florida; and he was most recently with Healthcare Consulting Associates, Inc. an organization which he founded and served as the Principal Officer. Having a wide range of healthcare leadership experience, Ernesto has served in three different C-Suite positions over the last ten years for a very large not-for profit healthcare system as a hospital Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and then as Chief Executive Officer for Adventist Health System’s Hospice organization which served approximately 375 patients a day and operated an inpatient facility and an on-campus residence. Mr. Lopez has a Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University; Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Miami; Associate of Science in Nursing from Southern Adventist University. He has been a member of a number of designated and professional associations including the American College of Healthcare Executives.

HWC was established in 1980 and is the exclusive licensed provider of hospice care in Washington County, Maryland. HWC is governed by an elected Board of Directors and currently serves approximately 260 Washington County residents who live at home with family, in nursing homes, assisted living facilities or group homes and soon in Doey’s House. The organization has 133 employees and over 200 volunteers.
“HWC is very excited to have Ernesto join our organization and open Doey’s House in the same month,” stated Mr. Newcomer. “Both will be a benefit to our current and future patients, as well as, their families.”
